FORE20 DGC SPRING OPENER LEAGUE AT WALNUT HOLLOW DGC

Thank you so much to the FORE20 DGC for inviting me to be apart of your spring opener disc golf league at Walnut Hollow. I had so much fun photographing all of you. Seeing your energy on the course is something that I will cary with me for a long time.

There is a coupon code available to all of you. This will cover your download fees. Just use “fore20” at checkout from the gallery.

When sharing pictures please photo credit @thediscgolfphotographer.

I am also running a giveaway for a Buzz right now. You can check that out right here.

Fade Disc Golf is one of the league sponsors this year, as well as Treasures of the Forest. It was really nice talking with Randall of Fade Disc Golf to hear about how he has turned his passion for disc golf into a business, selling discs and disc golf gear, since the pandemic started.

Treasures of the Forest are always so beautiful to see in person. Matt Sime does incredible work incorporating a piece of each disc golf course into his one-of-a-kind minis that are available for purchase.

Walnut Hollow in Cary, IL, is one of the longer courses in the area. It’s 18-holes but is very scenic with rolling hills. It’s best to play here in the Spring because it does get pretty rough in the Summer and Fall when everything is grown in.

Gotta love a Bearheart sighting. Brian Earhart is one of the best disc golf commentators in our sport. He is from northern Illinois and I loved seeing the support on the course today, represented with the “Bearhart” logo on this hoodie.

There is a dog park that goes alongside holes 1 and 2. As your throwing your shots down the fairway, especially on hole 2, it is nice to see the dogs enjoying their off-leash time here.

The league started with a quick announcement followed by players drawing cards. By drawing cards, that defined what holes they would be starting on. The format here was singles play for bag tags.

Bag tags are available for purchase at the start of any league. You don’t have to play every league day to be apart of the league.

Bag tags are numbered 1 through infinity (pretty much). If you shoot the best score in this singles format, you get tag number one — or the lowest tag that is available from who attends league.

Bag tags are a bragging right. You keep them with you, and you can challenge your friends, separately from league, to play for lower tags.

And they’re off…

This stretch of holes, 8 through 11, was personally my favorite to photograph because you have elevation, old growth oak trees and that texture of the tall grass right now that is super white and bright to photograph… all of that made for a really fun composition.

I saw how long the walk was for these holes, and I almost didn’t even want to go down there. Once I got out there I am so glad I experienced it because these were my favorite shots of the day.

The story of this cloud started a few holes back. We joked that there was not a cloud in the sky. But I saw this little white poof and I said watch, that’s going to grow.

What you see here is that cloud grown to its almost full-potential on hole 11. I snapped these photos, then it dissipated.

This next hole is made for plinko but everyone laced it. This is not hole 12, hole 12 is pictured somewhere else. I just wanted to show you this hole 😱

The funniest thing I heard today was someone on a card asking one of the guys if they had the fireball. The keyword here is “the” because the fireball is a disc and he thought they meant the alcohol. He didn’t realize the disc he found was called “fireball.” It was a two-part conversation that ended in laughter. Because there were no shots of fireball.

TEXTURE

For real, its a beautiful thing to photograph out here. I love the texture and color of this grass.

MOMENT OF THE DAY… CATCHING THE FREE RIDE!

I almost died when Domino’s showed up. Thank you Randall (Fade Disc Golf) for feeding the people! I loved the pineapple and jalapeno slice!

Thank you again to Nick for asking me to come out! I really enjoyed this day. It was refreshing to photograph such a casual day. And thank you everyone for bringing the VIBE! I had so much fun!
